Attend to Win initiative expands with addition of NEISD
Students arrive at Davis Middle School on East Houston Street Friday September 16, 2016. The San Antonio Independent School District has been taking part in the San Antonio Kids Attend to Win initiative and has been successful after three years. SA Kids Attend to Win is an initiative focused on improving daily school attendance to ensure students are kindergarten ready, reading on grade level by third grade, graduate on time and are prepared to succeed in college and career.
Diplomás Project Coordinator Latino Student Success Initiative
The Diplomás Project is a collective impact effort to improve college attainment for Latino students in San Antonio. This cross-sector collaborative includes representatives from independent school districts, institutions of higher education, community-based organizations and local chambers of commerce. The project focuses on data-driven interventions and policy advocacy to improve college readiness, access, persistence and attainment among Latinos. View Story
Diplomás Project Coordinator, Sarah Sorensen has been hired as new the Project Manager. Prior to joining the Diplomás Project, Sarah Sorensen worked as an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Public Administration of the University of Texas at San Antonio’s College of Public Policy teaching undergraduate courses in public policy and the nonprofit sector. She relocated to San Antonio in 2014 from Albany, New York where she spent seven years as a Legislative Analyst for Assembly member Deborah J. Glick, Chair of the New York State Assembly’s Higher Education Committee.

In early 2016, Diplomás was selected to participate in the StriveTogether Postsecondary Enrollment Impact and Improvement Network. Diplomás partners and staff, along with representatives from six projects across the country, received coaching, resources, and support from StriveTogether to enhance our work related to FAFSA completion. While participating in the Impact and Improvement Network, Diplomás partner SAISD implemented several FAFSA completion interventions at a test campus, Highlands High School leading to a 10 percent increase in the number of FAFSAs completed over last year.
