San Antonio readers are getting a sneak preview of Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa’s speech to the University of Texas Board of Regents.

Here’s a preview the Chancellor sent out:

Dear Friend of the UT System,

We Texans have always explored new frontiers: first in the boundless and often remote reaches of the land itself, and then thousands of miles away in the vastness of space. Our success has come from daring to embark on something bold and new.

Today, Texas finds itself at the epicenter of the national discussion on the future of higher education. How do we make a college education more accessible and affordable? How do we improve the learning environment on our campuses? How do we adapt to our state’s rapidly changing demographics, produce more college graduates, and prepare them for productive careers?
