Art in A+ Schools Supplements Student Learning

A+ Schools Network gets nod from the U.S. Department of Education.

Millwood Arts Academy in Oklahoma is a leading example of the educational approach that Oklahoma is embracing with its commitment to the A+ Schools network. According to Education Week, the A+ Schools have received praise from U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and were mentioned in a 2011 arts education report.

The magnet schools incorporate eight core principals or “essentials,”  including a strong emphasis in the arts, teacher collaboration, experiential learning, and the exploration of “multiple intelligences” among students. While funding is an issue for some schools, the A+ Schools see strong student outcomes when schools fully commit to the eight core principals.
