Basketball League Reaches Out to Area Youth

Teamwork, community pride and friendly competition is what participants can expect from the new Midnight Basketball League that meets every weekend until August 4, 2012.

The Midnight Basketball League is up and running at the Davis-Scott YMCA, 1213 Iowa St. Basketball games are played on Friday and Saturday nights at 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. from June – August.

The basketball league was organized by the San Antonio Police Athletic League with lots of help from community churches, schools, and other community organizations. The teams are made up of young men ages 17 – 23 years old and are supported by various organizations including Generation Federal Credit Union, Spurs Sports & Foundation, the Eastside Promise Neighborhood, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County and others.

The summer league has grown in popularity and has even garnished national attention. For more information about Midnight Basketball League, call Sandi Carlyon at (210) 827-0645.
