Does Texting Hinder Student Grammar Skills?

A study released shows there is a correlation between student texting and the decline of grammar skills.

Education Week published an article that surveyed 266 middle school students and tracked their texting or “tech speak” and their day-to-day activities such as watching television and reading for pleasure.

After assessing the students who used “tech speak,” or shortened words used while texting, results showed that heavy users of tech speak performed significantly lower in English grammar skills.

What do you think? Has “tech speak” hindered your child’s grammar skills at home or in the classroom?
