EDI Grant to Help Improve School Readiness

The Texas Early Learning Council selected four Texas communities to participate in the Texas Community Campaign for School Readiness, and one of those communities was United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.

The funding is made possible through the Early Development Instrument (EDI) grant, which will help identify and respond to early childhood needs in the area. P16Plus Council of Bexar County  has partnered with United Way to evaluate Kindergarteners in San Antonio ISD, Harlandale ISD and Edgewood ISD.

Over 333 teachers will be trained to evaluate over 5,000 children to receive common robust indicators on the readiness of children in Kindergarten.

EDI is a comprehensive, community-level, measure of early development and school readiness for young children. This new tool allows United Way to identify and reach these children, prepare them for kindergarten and set them on a course to be successful graduates.
