Groups Support Common Core State Standards

Parent groups have taken in interest in helping families understand educational standards.

There’s a reason why you’re seeing more activity from your local Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Chapter. According to a recent article published in Education Week, the National PTA organization and the Council of Great City Schools (CGCS) have received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to provide workshops and printed literature that explains the Common Core State Standards to families.

The Common Core State Standards provide teachers and students with clear and consistent understanding of what students need to learn to be successful.  PTAs are providing workshops at various venues (schools, churches, etc.) and the CGCS is producing easy-to-understand materials or “parent road maps” that clearly explain the common core standards to parents free from jargon-filled content.

The National Council of La Raza has produced similar materials called “Advocacy Tool Kit.” Download the Tool Kit HERE.
