H-E-B Adds Early Childhood Award Category

A new category has been added to the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award.

Applications are now being accepted through January 6, 2012 for the Early Childhood Award category. This award is designed to recognize teaching excellence for children under age 5. The award can be used to support existing Kinder Readiness programs or to develop a new one so that children are prepared to succeed at grade level in Kindergarten.

Five regional finalists will each be presented with a check for $5,000. One overall state winner will be selected and awarded an additional $25,000 grant to apply towards enhancing existing Kinder Readiness programs or creating a new program for this age group.

The Early Education Award supports H-E-B’s Read3 early literacy campaign launched this summer. Additionally, the grocery chain opened 10 new in-store literacy centers in San Antonio and South Texas.

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards gives over $600,000 in cash prizes to deserving teachers, principals, and school districts each year.
