M.I.T.x – Free Online Education, Minus Credentials

Free online education for all. That’s what M.I.T’s new education initiative promises to offer the world minus the credentials saying you’ve graduated from the prestigious school.

This is a great program if you’ve been out of work for a long time, fresh out of school and don’t know what to major in or simply want to hone a new skill. The platform won’t roll out until later this Spring, but it’s already creating lots of buzz.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) already offers OpenCourseWare (OCW) that provides free notes, lectures and video for over 2,000 M.I.T. courses, but this new format will offer students from around the world a more interactive platform to engage the online learning community.

Unlike other programs that offer free course content, this new initiative will provide learners with an official certificate of completion. Lifelong learners, you can jump for joy now.

Other programs or platforms that offer free online learning include the Khan Academy and Academic Earth.
