New Assessments to Measure Career Readiness

Can a test assess a child’s readiness for college and career in the early grades?

An article in Education Week is reporting that ACT Inc., the maker of college-entrance exams, will be rolling out a new series of exams designed to measure college and career readiness in grades as early as Kindergarten.

A first of it’s kind, the tests will measure student outcomes in and out of the classroom and behavior and interests.

According to the report, the assessments are a response to the “college and career skills gap issue,” and will be aligned to the common core standards. The first assessments will assess grades 3-12, but will, in a later version, include kindergarten through second grade.
