SAC college president announces retirement

San Antonio’s largest community college will undergo leadership changes soon.

At the annual Spring College Convocation, Dr. Robert “Bob” Ziegler, Alamo Colleges – San Antonio College (SAC) president, announced his retirement to faculty and staff in attendance.

According to a statement released earlier this week, Ziegler believed it was the right time to depart after a long career at SAC — first as as student, faculty member, administrator and then college president.

“I’ve been connected to San Antonio College practically my whole life, first as a student, then an alumnus and professor, and finally as an administrator and President. In each role, I have learned a lot and have been given the opportunity to work with outstanding people. It was a hard decision for me to make, but after talking with my wife, Mary, I knew it was time. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity SAC has given me in my life and for the opportunities I’ve had to engage in this important work.”

Ziegler joined SAC as a student in 1959 and earned an AA in Liberal Arts. He then attended Sam Houston State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in History/Government and a Master of Arts in American History/Government. He obtain a Ph.D. in History at Texas Tech University.

Dr. Ziegler’s retirement becomes effective this summer.
