To be or not to be… like an actor in the classroom?!

Should teacher training include performance practice? According to a recent article published in MindShift, professional development and teacher training doesn’t emphasize performance tactics as a teaching strategy.

While performers and musicians are expected to perfect their craft through practice, teachers are simply trained to identify teaching tools that could be integrated into classroom lessons.

Unfortunately, not all teachers are equipped to implement new tools.

“Knowing what you want to do is a long way from being able to do it,” said Doug Lemov, managing director of Uncommon Schools, a non-profit school management organization.

He recommends identifying best practices used by exceptional teachers and breaking down those elements into manageable skills that can be learned and practiced in the classroom.
