If you’re wondering what the new assessment program will be like across Texas schools, you’re not alone.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released sample test questions for the new State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™) program, which will replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) next spring. The resources available on the TEA web site include questions and answers, a list of mandatory testing days, an overview of the STARR program, sample test questions and much more.

In grades 3 – 8, the STARR program will still assess the same subjects and grades as the TAKS assessment. The major difference is seen in high school where grade-specific assessments will be replaced with 12 end-of-course (EOC) assessments: Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, biology, chemistry, physics, English I, English II, English III, world geography, world history, and U.S. history.

Teachers and parents alike are encouraged to begin previewing this new rigorous assessment tool. Click on the link below to see sample Math test questions for 3rd Grade.
