Some San Antonio ISD high school students will have more access to technology at Tech School.

Tech School opened its doors on Monday at Sam Houston High School bringing interactive white boards for teachers and laptops for students and parents who commit to computer training and 15 community services hours each semester.

The program is only available to freshmen and sophomores this year and a waiting list is growing. Unlike traditional classroom settings, New Tech will offer students opportunities to collaborate on projects. Teachers will serve as facilitators, and students apply critical thinking skills in real-world settings. Because computers are not always accessible in students’ home, the technology availability at New Tech will prepare students with transferable computer skills they can apply in the workplace.
