2011 was a good year for high school seniors across the state.

According to new reports released from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Texas graduation rates for 2011 seniors are up among Hispanic and Black students; however, those rates still fall short of the overall rate of 86 percent.

The report also shows that Texas male students are less likely to graduate at 83.7 percent compared to girls at 88.2 percent.

Graduation rates by groups (Texas Education Agency)
• White – 92.0 percent, up from 91.6 percent in 2010.
• Hispanics – 81.8 percent, up from 78.8 percent in 2010.
• African Americans – 80.9 percent, up from 78.8 percent in 2010.
• Female – 88.2 percent, up from 86.5 percent in 2010.
• Male – 83.7 percent, up from 82.1 percent in 2010.
