San Antonio receives national attention for last week’s Destination College events.

Destination College free events attracted many schools, students and families  with a variety of information sessions, workshops, guest speakers and hands-on activities and games.

The week kicked off with a College Access Summit that explored college access successes and next steps. Elementary and middle school students gained valuable knowledge about attending college and being college ready. STEM-tastic activities captivated visitors at the Career Block Party, which was held at the Witte Museum.

Friday’s College Signing Day was a huge success as thousands gathered at the University of Texas at San Antonio to celebrate college commitment and see keynote speaker Michelle Obama. The First Lady did not disappoint. She even made time to shake hands with the crowd. During her speech, she officially launched her latest initiative to support higher education, Reach Higher.

Rounding off the week, students in 9th, 10th and 11th grade attended the Destination College Summit at San Antonio College. Students explored the ins and outs of college life, scholarship applications, leadership opportunities and healthy lifestyles.
