Grassroots movement focuses on mentoring

Through volunteerism and collaboration, group hopes to spark interest and inspire change.

The Counseling Department at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and Boy With A Ball hosted a presentation focused on preventing student dropout across San Antonio through mentoring. The presentation “Building a Tomorrow, Today”  focused on volunteerism and the group’s efforts to curb the dropout rate in area San Antonio schools.

Boy With A Ball partnered with Harlandale ISD last year to offer the dropout prevention initiative at the high school and middle school. According to Anna Currie with Boy With A Ball, the program was such a success this year that new grades will be added to the program. The curriculum was developed by UTSA Counseling Professor Michael Karcher, Ph.D.
