New degree supports training for Oil and Gas

New degree program will train for high demand jobs in Eagle Ford Shale area.

Earlier this month, Palo Alto College announced a new degree program — Associate of Applied Science in Oil and Gas Technology. Approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the program launched this fall.

The two-year program will train students as petroleum pump systems operators, service unit operators, roustabouts, and other similar process and production technician positions. The stacked model allows students to earn certificates in as little as 16 weeks.

Palo Alto College is the only college in a 100-mile radius to offer this type of degree. Other Texas colleges offering similar degrees include Brazosport College in Lake Jackson, College of the Mainland in Texas City, Navarro College in Corsicana, and Coastal Bend College in Beeville.
