SAC’s Upward Bound receives $1.25 million grant

High school students from Lanier and Fox Tech can count on college readiness services from San Antonio College.

Thanks to a $1.25 million grant from the Department of Education, San Antonio College’s Upward Bound (UB) program can continue to provide services to students from the San Antonio ISD high schools. The UB program, known as Access and Learning for Advancement and Success (ALAS), caters to students from Lanier and Fox Tech High Schools.

The multi-year grant will allow ALAS to provide tutoring, college readiness instruction, assistance in applying for college admissions and financial aid, financial literacy workshops and a summer academic program.

Upward Bound is one of the Department of Education TRIO programs that assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students. To learn more about SAC’s UB program, contact David Alfaro, project director, at 210-486-0387 or dalfaro13@alamo.edu.
