UIW Eye Center receives $1 million federal grant

San Antonio eastside residents to benefit from new equipment at UIW optometry clinic.

At a press conference, Dr. Lou Agnese, president of the University of the Incarnate Word, announced that that the university received a $1 million federal grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) for specialized optometric equipment to be used at the UIW Eye Care Center that services the San Antonio eastside community.

According to the university’s press release, the clinic will also serve as a training center for physicians and has spurred a new partnership with St. Philip’s College to assist in training students to serve as ophthalmic technicians.
