UIW hosts two-day Literacy Summit

Join experts from around the country as they present on important literacy topics that impact how children and adults develop literacy skills.

The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) will host the two-day Dreeben School of Education Literacy Summit: What’s Hot in Literacy for 2012 on February 3 – 4, 2011 at the UIW campus.

The event is sponsored by the Specialized Literacy Professionals (an IRA Special Interest Group), Texas Association for Literacy Education (TALE), and UIW. The conference centers around the theme “What’s Hot in Literacy for 2012” and features keynote speakers Dr. Jack Cassidy and Dr. Jay Blanchard.

Other presentations sessions and roundtables explore topics in legislation and literacy, literacy comprehension, motivating K-5 writers with nonfiction, comprehension through multisensory manipulation, personalized professional development, using social networks to fire up discussions and more.

Friday’s conference runs from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday’s conference begins with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and concludes with keynote speaker Karen Bromley at 12- 12:45 p.m. Registration is $125 for one day or $200 for two days.
