Groundbreaking introduces new park at SWISD

New city-wide initiative brings collaboration to expand parks.

Southwest ISD officials were joined by members of San Antonio Sports and the City of San Antonio early this month at the groundbreaking ceremony at Sky Harbour Elementary school. The site will be the location for the new SPARK park.

SPARK stands for schools and parks and first appeared in Houston in 1983. Organizations collaborate to expand park areas to include walking trails, outdoor classrooms, enhanced playgrounds, playing fields, gardens, and more.

The park expansion at Sky Harbour is the first of many planned. Dr. Susan Blackwood, Executive Director of San Antonio Sports said, “Our goal is to have a new SPARK Park dedicated each and every year.”
