Museum activities inspire creativity and learning

Learning is definitely more fun with hands-on activities that demonstrate science, technology, engineering and math concepts.

P16Plus Council of Greater Bexar County and the San Antonio Children’s Museum collaborated last month to sponsor a San Antonio is Our Classroom” event with North East Independent School District (NEISD).

Families from Olmos and Delview Elementary Schools visited the downtown museum — for many, it was their first time at the venue. Children and families created magnet art, balloon racers and straw bridges. The STEM-fused activities introduced basic learning concepts in a fun and relaxed environment allowing families to engage and enjoy the museum’s resources.

“San Antonio is Our Classroom” is a proven model that works by highlighting affordable, educational resources to parents and students. The parent engagement events are the result of a “San Antonio is Our Classroom” initiative identified in P16Plus’ PreK-3rd Grade Strategy that aims to address the reading and academic performance of San Antonio children.
