SAISD promotes literacy with book initiative

Over 8,000 children in the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) received new books.

SAISD has partnered with the San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel to launch a new literacy initiative that will put a new book in the hand of each district student to add to home libraries.

Through Books Build Character, the district hopes to distribute a new book to all 54,000 students in the district. Earlier this month, second and seventh graders received books: “Freckle Juice” by Judy Blume and “Wonder” by R. J. Palacio.

The district welcomes donations to support the cause. To learn more how you can help, contact Shelley Potter, president of the San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel, at (210) 225-7174.
