Stay-cations are even more fun when they’re free

Stay-cations are even more fun when they’re free

San Antonio summers can be hot, but with a little planning, caregivers and kids can make the most of summer break by visiting many sites, especially when admission is FREE!

Although many of us reside in San Antonio, we don’t often make the time to enjoy the beautiful sites and sounds.

Take A Stroll Down the San Antonio River Walk
Don’t let the tourists have all the fun! Grab your favorite hat, sunglasses, a big clunky camera, and your “I Love San Antonio” t-shirt and hit the River Walk for discovery and exploration. Using your Smartphone, you can take a self-guided tour and explore the 12 points along the River Walk. Simply download a QR reader from the app store and use the QR to scan and learn more about the architecture designed by Robert H. H. Hugman. The tour is narrated by local historian Lewis Fisher. What are you waiting for? Grab the kids and make this a “teachable moment.”

Plan an Eventing Out with Movies by Moonlight
Tuesday evenings in downtown San Antonio have never been this much fun. After a long day of work, why not unwind with a free movie (and free parking) outdoors at the HemisFair Park. Movie-goers can enjoy complimentary movies every Tuesday from June – August. Pack a picnic or buy treats from the local concession. The outdoor cinema series is hosted by the City of San Antonio Downtown Operations. Reminder! Downtown Tuesday offers free parking from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. at all City-operated parking garages, parking lots and parking meters. Park for free at the Alamo Street Lot near the HemisFair Park or across from the Federal Courthouse on Cesar Chavez. Lots after 6 p.m. on a first-come basis.
