Three Young Achievers awarded $5K scholarship

Middle Schoolers prepare for rich camp experience that incorporates writing, technology and science.

Three Young Achievers were recently awarded scholarships to explore core subjects at the university of their choice.

Metzger, Rhodes and Terrell Wells Middle Schools Young Achievers Thomas Boisseau, Dominic Rivas and Eddie Flores each earned a $5,000 scholarship to participate in a three-week summer workshop  sponsored by Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP).

The Young Achievers were selected to receive a full scholarship to attend Duke TIP’s nationally renowned three-week Summer Studies Program, which allows students with exceptional SAT scores to get hands-on experience in a field of their choice while collaborating with other students and college faculty.

The intense summer program provides age-appropriate workshops, peer teaching and presentations, campus-wide activities, and college-level research in state-of-the-art facilities. The high-energy educational experience is made possible by the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio.

Thomas Boisseau will attend the University of Georgia to study Computer Technology in July.

Young Achievers, a program of Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio, is a college preparation program with partnering school districts. Students who commit to the 16-week program participate in workshops, take field trips to college campuses, meet with a mentor and have an opportunity to take the SAT test.
