VIA’s annual art contest encourages young artists

Lackland ISD students were two of several students across the city who were recognized for their artistic talent from the San Antonio bus transit.

VIA Metropolitan Transit of San Antonio holds an Art Competition every March. The art contest is open to students in PreK- 12th grade in the San Antonio area.

The themed poster event draws over 1,000 entries each year. First and second place winners are selected from each grade level (PreK-12) and a Best in Show is also recognized.

This year’s third grade winners were both from Lackland ISD: Lisabeth Yandun-Mera received 1st Place for her poster and a $100 Savings Bond, and Brianna McCabe took 2nd place for her poster and received a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.

The winning art works will be displayed inside the Classroom on Wheels bus for an entire year. The winners were honored with an awards luncheon, and each of them received a trophy and special prizes.
