Burbank’s IB seniors earn $16.9M in scholarships

Students enrolled in Burbank’s magnet program earn top awards.

Luther Burbank High School recognized 34 seniors enrolled in the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) magnet program at it’s Pin and Stole ceremony.The keynote address was delivered by Leo Gomez of the Spurs Sports & Entertainment.

IB seniors garnered a whopping $16.9 million in scholarship offers from various Ivy League and flagship schools, including Brown University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College and the University of Pennsylvania, the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Texas at Austin.

The college-preparatory program is the only IB program in the city exposing students to a global education with rigorous course work. IB scholars join the program during their junior year and earn college-credit hours while taking college-level classes in English, Spanish, History,Biology, Math Studies, Visual Arts, and Theory of Knowledge. Students must also research and write a 4,000 word essay and complete 150 hours of community service work.

The IB school is one of 13 magnet programs in the San Antonio Independent School District.
