New school focused on college readiness and STEM-based instruction.

Harlandale Independent School District Board of Trustees approved to begin planning for the district’s first Early College High School (ECHS).

The early college high school model supports college readiness through articulated degree plans with neighboring Palo Alto College and Texas A&M University – San Antonio. Students who enroll in early college high school programs earn a high school diploma and can accumulate enough college-credit hours to earn an Associates Degree.

“This is life changing. Our early college high school will have a huge impact on our kids and their families. Not only will it get students college ready but it will help them achieve in college too,” exclaimed Superintendent Rey Madrigal.

Harlandale’s Early College High School is scheduled to open for the 2014-2015 academic year. Plans to hire a school principal and support staff are underway.
