NISD Receives Innovation Grant for AP Pilot

The Northside Independent School District is one of three school districts in the nation to receive a $3 million grant for program improvements and development.

The innovation grant is made possible through the U.S. Department of Education’s Investment in Innovation (i3) program. The funds will be used to develop online tools and resources for AP Biology teachers. The web-based tools will give teachers the resources they need to better assess and assist students so that they are better prepared for college.

Additionally, Northside hopes to partner with two other school districts in Florida to create a College Board website with focused activities and assessment tools that may be used by other school districts.

The AP program give students college-level courses and exams. According to district officials, almost 50% of Northside students are enrolled in an AP class.
