Childhood experiences inspire SWISD MS author

Southwest district middle school English teacher holds book signing for her first published book, Under the Mesquite.

Veteran teacher Guadalupe McCall found her calling as an English classroom teacher even though it wasn’t her first preference when she joined Southwest ISD some 20 years ago. This weekend, you can find McCall at Barnes & Nobles at Ingram Festival signing her first published book.

Like most authors, McCall’s journey to getting published was long but worthwhile. In fact, her first works were produced in her classroom. Just as her students wrote poems, so did she. Her works were actually stories inspired by her own childhood experiences. What became a series of poems has now become a book entitled, Under the Mesquite.

McCall recently held two book signing events last week at Barnes & Noble at Ingram Festival. The Book Fair & Book Signing benefited the McAuliffe Middle School Library. The McAuliffe Mariachi Group and the McAuliffe Drama Club performed during the two-day book event.
