Edgewood ISD introduces 6th Grade Academy

New academy offers sixth graders smooth transition into middle school.

Edgewood Independent School District (EISD) will offer a 6th Grade Academy beginning this fall in time for the 2014 – 2015 academic school year. All sixth grade students will be served in the Hoelscher Elementary School building, 1602 W. Thompson Place, adjacent to Brentwood Middle School.

According to a press release issued by the district, this new transitional design bridges the structure of elementary school to the independence of middle school. Parents were notified of the new academy at various parent meetings that were held last month. Transportation will be provided to qualifying students.

The 6th Grade Academy will provide project-based learning with technology incorporated in all content areas. Students will have choices in electives including art, band, orchestra/mariachi, choir and P.E. Afterschool programming such as Police Athletic League, robotics, chess, drill team, Anime (animation), and UIL activities will be offered to students.

Students will return to their designated middle school for grades 7th and 8th.
