Gamma Sigma Pearls make Harlandale history

The Girls Scouts made history at Harlandale ISD by launching four leadership chapters for middle school girls – the first in the nation!

At an Investiture Ceremony in December, representatives from the Girls Scouts of Southwest Texas, Harlandale and community leaders pinned 80 middle school girls as Gamma Sigma Pearls. The participating middle schools were Harlandale, Kingsborough, Leal and Terrell Wells Middle Schools.

The Pearls are the “sister chapter” to the Gamma Sigma Girls, which was piloted in 2010 by the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas and San Antonio ISD. The program proved to be so successful at SAISD high schools, that the program expanded this year to Harlandale along with the Pearls chapter.

Gamma Sigma Girls allows members to bond in sisterhood and gives them a safe place to explore common interests. Areas of focus include:  advocacy, taking action, and being college bound.
