KSAT students place 2nd in rocket competition

Four teams from the North East school district earned a trip to the national rocket competition.

Krueger School of Applied Technologies(KSAT) competed at the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) on Saturday, May 12, outside of Washington, D.C. Of the four teams that competed, only one team placed. Team Three made up of Ruth, Isabella and Dalia placed second in the nation.

This elite group  have been invited by NASA to share in one of their programs next year.

“Since we placed in the top 24 in the nation, NASA has invited us to join the Student Launch Initiative,” said teacher Tracy Thomas. “This is where a small group of students from next year’s eighth-grade class are selected by us to work with NASA. This includes four in depth engineering reports, three video conferences, money to build a rocket that flies a mile high with a scientific payload, and a trip to Huntsville, Alabama to fly with the top schools in the nation.”

Rocketry aims to attract  students to science, math and technology education and introduces careers in the aerospace industry.
