Kidcation Week kicks off last summer bash

City prepares to celebrate the end of summer with city-wide events.

Organized by the San Antonio Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, the first annual 2013 Kidcation Week celebrates the end of summer with discounted (and sometimes free) kid-friendly events and activities during the week of August 12-18, 2013.

Over 50 local museums, hotels and restaurants will participate in the week-long event focused on providing rich cultural and educational experiences to area residents and local tourists.

“We did this with the kids in mind,” CVB Executive Director Casandra Matej said. “Whether you travel within your own city or are going to a destination, you’re learning about its history and its culture. Travel enhances an educational experience.”

The event kicks off with free music, food and entertainment at the Hemisfair Park on Monday, August 12 between 9:30 and Noon. Look for daily activities and discounted treats available during the week. The grand finale event, Let’s Read!, will be held on Sunday, August 18 at Main Plaza (111 Soledad St.) For a complete list of daily events, click on the 2013 Kidcation Week Calendar.
