Rhodes Middle School Students Create PSAs

It’s not your ordinary class assignment: create an online campaign to raise awareness of cyberbullying.

However, William Davis’ students were up to the task. His students have already shot, written and produced a video about cyber safety, so producing a PSA about how to recognize cyberbullying was just another opportunity to use their multimedia skills.

The online safety videos are available online at the San Antonio ISD website for parents and students. This media-based project gave students the opportunity to address a timely topic that has gotten national attention. Local media outlet WOAI-TV also featured the project last Fall.

Topics covered help students identify cyberbullying by showing hurtful messages that often go unnoticed or simply waved off as teasing messages. The messages can appear in social media outlets such as Facebook, MySpace, instant message, email or via phone text.

The cyber safety video illustrates the dangers of meeting strangers online by using student actors to role play a real-life scenario where teenage girls agree to meet a stranger they met online.
