SAISD encourages writing across the curriculum

In order to become better readers, student must become better writers.

San Antonio ISD students recently received journals to be used for writing assignments across the core subjects. According to district officials, the district has an increased focus on rigor and instruction in reading and writing this year, with journaling being one component.

As seen in this photo, students incorporate journaling into a science lesson at Lowell Middle School. Literacy experts agree that writing helps students become better readers. According to a report from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, “Evidence for How Writing Can Improve Reading,” increasing the amount of time students spend writing helps them to become better readers.  Read the entire report HERE.
