Texas independence history comes to South San

Kazen middle schoolers get a lesson on Texas history just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month.

South San Independent School District seventh graders were treated to a special visit by biographer David McDonald, who shared his findings about one of the Texas Independence revolutionary Jose Antonio Navarro.

Students learned about Navarro’s role in helping Tejanos, Texans of Spanish descent, obtain the right to vote as is stated in the Texas constitution. The author donated a signed copy of his book, Jose Antonio Navarro: In Search of the American Dream in Nineteenth Century Texas, to the middle school library.
