Wood Middle School supports literacy awareness

Middle schoolers encourage early learners to love reading.

North East ISD’s Wood Middle School Peer Assistance Leaderships students (PALs) held a campus-wide book drive in support of H-E-B’s Read 3 Book Drive. The student group collected 707 books and participated in a literacy event at the Nacogdoches H-E-B store.

To inspire active listening, the PALs group created activities to support reading. Story-time listeners were asked to retell the story with puppets. With support from a PALs member, children made a “take-home” character puppet.

H-B-B Read 3 initiative supports early childhood literacy. Last year, the grocery giant donated one million books to children in need.
