BiblioTech bookless library is up and running

One-of-a-kind library is getting national attention for its bookless format.

BiblioTech Bexar County Digital Library is buzzing with activity and national media attention. The first of it’s kind, the all-digital public library opened its doors in September in South Bexar County (3505 Pleasanton Road).

In an interview with CBS Evening News, Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff shared his enthusiasm with the reception the library is receiving from the community. The digital format keeps costs down so the library is able to incorporate more community outreach and offer digital learning tools and Internet access to a community challenged by the digital divide.

Aside from desktop computers and tablets, BiblioTech offers a children’s area with kid-size electronics to inspire and motivate young learners. Additionally, the library lends out Nook e-readers preloaded with age-appropriate apps and e-books.

The library offers community technology classes and supports local schools to expand learning with wireless technology.

According to Wolf, he expects to have 100,000 visitors to the library by the end of its first year.
