Get help paying for college with a FAFSA

Parents, if you have a student graduating in May or if your New Year’s resolution includes returning to school, January is a critical month for you.

According to financial aid experts, January is the month families should begin preparing for student financial aid. Using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, students and families can begin the process electronically.

It’s important to note that that there is NEVER a fee to process the FAFSA, so if you come across a FAFSA site that ends in .com or that is requesting a fee for service, log off and click the authentic FAFSA site (Click HERE and bookmark).

Fortunately, there are many resources to help families get started, including various student aid workshops around the city. Check out Student Aid Saturdays for times and event dates. You can also get financial aid assistance at your local high school and talk to a counselor at cafécollege.
