I-BEST helps students kickstart technical careers

Individuals pursuing a technical program at Alamo Colleges now have the option to earn college credits.

The I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training) program of the Alamo Colleges allows developmental students or individuals who perform low in the basic skills assessment to earn college credit as they begin training for high demand technical careers.

Traditionally, a student has to pass the development course before she can take other college credit courses. I-BEST students take technical training courses paired with reading, writing, math or English language skills needed for college training. This program option is ideal for nontraditional students who want to start their careers right away.

I-BEST is best suited for developmental students interested in a technical program. Program options include: Nurse Aid for Healthcare, Supply Chain Associate, Medical Assisting, Health Information Specialist, Weatherization and Solar PV Installer, Pharmacy Technology, Dental Assisting and Community Health Worker. The programs vary from 10 months to two years for completion.

Registered I-BEST students may take courses at any of the Alamo Colleges where the technical program is offered.
