Second season for athletic community initiative set to begin.

The Eastside Midnight Basketball League held opening ceremonies last week to launch its second season with community leaders kicking off the event.

The league’s goal is to ensure that local students feel safe in their schools and community. Funding is made possible by the Eastside Promise Neighborhood grant through the U.S. Department of Education and is administered by the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.

The season begins June 21 with games scheduled on Friday and Saturdays. The league now includes a women’s division. Women play at 8 p.m. and the men’s division games run from 8 to 11 p.m. Games will be held at at the Davis Scott Family YMCA located at 1213 Iowa St.
