DePaul Children’s Center prepares early learners

If you’ve never heard of the Daughters of Charity Services of San Antonio, then you’re not alone. What might be the “best kept secret” in the Southside has supported the community for over 50 years beginning with its youngest members.

Child Development
The DePaul Children’s Center is an early childhood development program offered through the Daughters of Charity Services. The program offers affordable childcare for children six weeks old to age five. The 18,000 square-foot Center opened in 2009 and now serves 240 children. Plans to open an East side Childcare Center next year are underway.

The state-of-the-art facility has 12 age-appropriate classrooms, a large courtyard with a playground and shaded walkways. The preschool curriculum is designed to prepare children for Kindergarten and like all student-centered programs, allows children to develop concepts through exploration and play. The low teacher-student ratios give children the tools they need to succeed and thrive. The average classroom size for children ages four and five is 21 children, while 18 is the maximum amount allowed in classrooms for three year-old children. Each classroom has a lead teacher with a certified assistant.

Parenting Program
The Daughters of Charity Services also offers the Precious Minds Parenting Program in partnership with CentroMed, The parenting component engages parents as they improve skills to support their child’s education outside the classroom.
