Little Read Wagon promotes early literacy

Empowering children with strong literacy skills and instilling the love of reading is one mission the San Antonio Public Library hopes to accomplish with its literacy program.

The Little Read Wagon is an early literacy outreach program that supports reading and learning. Trained staff members provide literacy information and materials to parents, extended family, and caregivers of children ages birth-five years.

The free services are held at public libraries, childcare facilities, schools and community-based organizations.

Play & Learn
Play & Learn is a five-week series for parents and children that meets once a week for stories, songs and fun activities. Pre-reading strategies are introduced each week. This program is designed for adults and children ages 5 and younger.

Professional Development for Childcare Providers
The San Antonio Public Library’s Little Read Wagon provides early literacy training for those who work with children ages birth-5 years old. The free workshops are held several times a year and cover different topics. To register for an event, call 207-2517.
