Registration extended for diversity conference

Attention early childhood professionals! The registration for the Early Childhood Diversity Conference has been extended until Wednesday, March 21!

The two-day conference workshop is scheduled for Friday, March 23 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Saturday, March 24 from 8 a.m. – 12:35 p.m. at the Barshop Jewish Community Center, 12500 NW Military Highway. Workshop topics will focus on physical/intellectual abilities, gender perspectives, race and ethnicity, economic class, religious beliefs, incarcerated parents, sexual orientation, ageism, and many other relevant topics.

The purpose of the diversity conference is to raise awareness and remind educators about the importance of understanding the uniqueness of our cultures and other differences. The Start Seeing Diversity Conference is an off-shoot of the Cultural Friendship Exchange (CFE).

Friday’s keynote speaker is Ana De Hoyos-O’Conner, who is a full-time associate professor at San Antonio College. De Hoyos-O’Connor is an early childhood trainer with over 20 years of experience in the field and serves as a national training associate for the National Institute on Out-of-School Time at the Wellesley Centers for Women.

Conference sponsors include Brighton Horizons Family Solutions, Family Services Association, Brighton Center, City of San Antonio – Head Start Division, Education Service Center – Region 20, Daughters of Charity Services, KLRN, Scholastic, YMCA, JCC Block & Dreeben School for Young Children, The University of Texas at San Antonio – Child Development Center, and San Antonio Association for the Education of Young Children (SAAEYC).

Participants may receive up to six CEU contact hours on Friday and four CEU contact hours on Saturday. Seating is limited.
