Study validates AVANCE parent/child program

A new study released shows that families who participate in parent-child programs see long-term success.

According to a study released by the Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA), the AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program is making an impact on families who participate in the program.

The positive effect can be seen across the state from El Paso, Houston, Austin, Dallas and San Antonio. The families who were interviewed in the study said their children were ready for Kindergarten after participating in the program and saw student success as their children progressed in their academics. Increased student participation in extracurricular activities and improved parent engagement were also cited in the study.

“This study shows what we already knew, AVANCE works…that early intervention is the best investment we can make for the future of our country,” said Rick Noriega, AVANCE President and CEO. “Engaged parents with school-ready kids are the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.”

AVANCE has provided services to underserved families since 1973.
