Summer Read3 graduates cross the stage

Another round of preschool children graduated from H-E-B’s literacy program.

Approximately 150 children from Harlandale, AVANCE centers and San Antonio ISD district graduated from the H-E-B Read 3 literacy program. During the two-week summer program, participating families learned about nutrition, phonics and the importance of literacy.

District teachers and students from Trinity and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) assisted with the program.

Children who completed the program received a certificate, medal, t-shirt and backpack. Participating Harlandale ISD schools included: Collier Elementary, Columbia Heights Elementary, Gilbert Elementary,  Stonewall Flanders Elementary and Wright Elementary. AVANCE Centers: Central and Fenley, and San Antonio ISD Early Learning Centers: Carroll, Carvajal and Tynan also participated in the program.

H-E-B launched the Read3 literacy campaign that encourages families to read to their children at least three times each week. To date, over 700,000 new and gently-used books have been collected at H-E-B stores, which will be distributed to various organizations. Additionally, 13 literacy centers have been placed at select H-E-B Plus! stores across South Texas.
